Good news for Matric holders! Canyon Coal Learnership 2026 is officially open for applications at Khanye Colliery. If you have completed Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science, this is your chance to start your mining career.
Canyon Coal, one of South Africa’s top coal mining companies operating in Mpumalanga and Gauteng, is inviting qualified youth to apply for its Khanye Colliery Training and Learnership Programme 2026. This is a real opportunity to get both classroom training and practical experience inside a working mine.
Many learners who completed this programme were later hired permanently at Canyon Coal mines including Khanye Colliery in Bronkhorstspruit, Phalanndwa and Ukufisa.
About Canyon Coal Khanye Training Programme
The Khanye Training Programme is part of Canyon Coal’s Social and Labour Plan (SLP). It aims to train local youth from Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas.
Training runs for 12 to 18 months and includes theory at an accredited centre and practical training at the mine site. You will learn about mining operations, safety, and engineering.
Fields available:
– Mining Learnership
– Engineering Learnership (Electrical, Mechanical, Diesel Mechanic)
– Geology and Blasting
– Safety and Environmental
On completion, you receive a nationally recognized certificate and a monthly stipend during training.
Requirements for Canyon Coal Learnership 2026 — MATRIC ONLY
You must meet these official requirements — no Grade 10 or Grade 11:
– Must be a South African citizen
– Must have *National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12)*
– Must have passed *Mathematics and Physical Science* — 50% minimum, 70% is an advantage
– Must have N2 or higher in relevant trade for Engineering Learnership (Electrical, Mechanical, Diesel, Fitter, Boilermaker)
– Must be currently studying or recently completed at an accredited tertiary institution for Engineering Bursary / Learnership
– Age 18 to 35 years
– Must be medically fit — you will undergo a mine medical fitness test
– No criminal record
– Must live in Bronkhorstspruit / Mpumalanga / Gauteng area or willing to relocate
– Good English communication
*General Worker at Canyon Coal also requires Grade 12* — so Matric is compulsory for all positions.

– Certified copy of South African ID (not older than 3 months)
– Certified copy of Matric certificate with Maths and Science results
– Certified copy of N2 certificate if applying for Engineering
– Certified copies of ID for you and family breadwinner (for SLP learnership)
– Updated CV with phone number
– Proof of residence from municipality or chief
– Latest payslip of breadwinner OR affidavit if unemployed
